Financial Director
A Financial Director to join an acquisitive, private equity-backed construction group based in Halifax.
Reporting directly to the CFO, this is a senior leadership position with responsibility for leading the finance function, strengthening financial control and reporting, and providing the commercial insight required to support the Group’s continued growth.
The business is in an active phase of acquisition and expansion, making this an excellent opportunity for an ambitious finance leader who enjoys working in a fast-paced, acquisitive environment and wants to play a key role in the next stage of the Group’s development.
Key responsibilities
- Lead, mentor and develop the finance team, creating a high-performing culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
- Own Group reporting, monthly consolidated management information and board/investor reporting.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning, providing clear analysis of performance, risks and opportunities.
- Take responsibility for cashflow, working capital and cash management, ensuring strong cash discipline across the Group.
- Maintain robust financial controls, governance, compliance and audit readiness.
- Oversee and improve finance systems, processes, reporting and data quality.
- Provide commercial challenge and financial insight to the senior leadership team, helping improve margins, cost control and cash conversion.
- Support the CFO and wider leadership team with acquisitions, due diligence, integration and investment decisions.
- Manage relationships with auditors, banks, tax advisers and other external stakeholders.
- Ensure accurate and timely consolidated accounts and financial reporting across the Group.
Experience required
- ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualified with significant post-qualified experience and a strong track record of progression into senior finance leadership.
- Proven Finance Director / Group Financial Controller / senior Head of Finance experience within a construction or long-term contract accounting environment.
- Good understanding of consolidations gained in practice or industry.
- Experience of acquisition accounting, M&A, due diligence and integration would be highly advantageous.
- Strong commercial understanding of P&L, balance sheet, cashflow, working capital and financial performance.
- Excellent reporting, analytical and Excel skills, with the ability to turn financial information into clear commercial insight.
- Strong leadership skills with the credibility to challenge operational and senior stakeholders.
