Company Accountant
We are recruiting for an established business in Leeds seeking an experienced Company Accountant to take responsibility for its day to day finance function. This is a varied, hands-on position offering considerable autonomy within a small business environment.
Working closely with the Directors and external accountants, you will oversee the company’s accounting processes, financial reporting, payroll and general financial administration. A comprehensive handover and training will be provided by the current postholder, making this an excellent opportunity for someone with a solid bookkeeping background looking to develop their experience in a broader company accounting role.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the company’s accounting records using Sage 50, including sales and purchase ledger transactions.
- Prepare weekly debtor and creditor reports, manage outstanding balances and undertake credit control.
- Complete bank reconciliations and prepare quarterly VAT returns and monthly HMRC submissions.
- Produce monthly management accounts, including profit and loss reports, balance sheets and commentary on financial performance.
- Assist with year-end accounting requirements and liaise with external accountants.
- Process weekly payroll including timesheets, HMRC submissions and pension contributions.
- Maintain employee holiday, sickness and absence records.
- Prepare customer invoicing schedules and supporting documentation using Excel.
- Undertake customer credit checks and assist with general financial administration and Companies House requirements.
About You
- Previous experience in bookkeeping, accounts administration or a similar finance role.
- Practical experience using Sage 50
- Good working knowledge of Excel and confidence handling financial information.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 FTE
- Working pattern: 4 Full Days a Week
- Location: West Leeds, fully office based.
