Practice Bookkeeper
We are working with an established accountancy practice in Barnsley to recruit an experienced Bookkeeper. The firm provides a broad range of accountancy, taxation and business support services to owner-managed businesses and SMEs across a variety of sectors.
This is an opportunity to join a supportive practice environment, taking responsibility for bookkeeping and VAT work across a varied portfolio of clients. The position would suit someone with previous experience in an accountancy practice who enjoys working directly with clients and managing their own workload.
Key responsibilities
- Managing bookkeeping requirements for a portfolio of clients across different sectors.
- Maintaining accurate financial records, including sales and purchase ledgers.
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns.
- Completing bank reconciliations and reviewing transactions.
- Preparing accounts to trial balance stage.
- Working with cloud accounting software, including Xero and QuickBooks.
- Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and obtain information.
- Supporting the wider accounts team with year-end preparation.
- Ensuring bookkeeping records are maintained accurately and in line with relevant deadlines.
About you
- Previous bookkeeping experience gained within an accountancy practice.
- Good working knowledge of VAT and bookkeeping procedures.
- Experience using cloud accounting packages such as Xero or QuickBooks.
- AAT qualified, studying towards AAT or qualified by experience.
- Comfortable managing multiple clients and working to deadlines.
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients.
- A methodical approach with strong attention to detail.
Salary and benefits
- Salary: £30,000–£35,000 per annum, depending on experience (full-time equivalent).
- Hours: Full-time or part-time arrangements considered.
- Location: Barnsley.
