What to expect from working with a recruitment agency

Working with a recruitment agency can feel daunting, especially when you are trusting them with something as important and confidential as your job search. I have included information below on what to expect from working with a recruitment agency to help you with this process!

There are a few ways you could find yourself in touch with a recruitment agency, the first being you are actively looking and have applied for a job that an agency is advertising, secondly, you may have been approached on LinkedIn or thirdly, you have contacted an agency directly. Regardless of how you have got to this stage, the process will be very similar!

    1. The agency will get in contact with you to discuss your work history, what your requirements are for a new role (salary, location, type of role etc) and they will share any opportunities they have available as well.
    2. Once this conversation has happened, sometimes you will follow-up with a Teams call to further discuss your experience and this will give the agency an opportunity to share specific details about roles you would be a good fit for.
    3. The agency will then contact the relevant clients in regard to your application and gather information on the clients that would like to meet you for an interview. It’s a good idea that before this stage you think about your interview availability.
    4. After your interviews, the recruiter will get feedback from you to see if the roles are a good fit or if they should look at other options for you. The agent will also share feedback from your interviews and discuss the next steps.
    5. If you have received an offer from one of your interviews, the recruiter will discuss the offer, see what your thoughts are, and answer any questions you may have.
    6. You can either accept or reject the offer. If you accept, the agent will agree a start date with you and ensure you receive your offer letter and documents. If you reject the offer, the recruiter can look at other options for you and see if there is anything that could be done differently the next time around.

At the end of the day, using a recruiter has several benefits. They can manage the process for you, negotiate on your behalf and support you when you hand your notice in. Plus, if you use one agency, it’s even easier, as the process is managed all in one place!
