Whether you work in a sole Audit role, or a mixed Audit and Accounts role, many firms are crying out for people with Audit experience. I know the consensus is that a lot of people would like to move away from Audit, but I’m here to share reasons as to why you should keep your Audit experience!
- There is a shortage of Audit talent, and a shortage = more money. Audit candidates are being paid a premium right now, and if you want to receive good salary increases, sticking with Audit will be the way to do it.
- More progression opportunities – there are more and more people wanting to move away from Audit, so Senior Audit staff with solid experience are hard to come by. If you decide to stay within Audit, you might see yourself progress to Manager and eventually Partner a lot quicker than someone who is solely doing accounts.
- The Audit work won’t go away, so embrace the challenge and make a real difference to your clients and firm. This recognition will help with progression, networking, salary, and longevity.
Always remember that as you climb through the ranks, your role within Audit will change and become more varied. In the beginning, it may feel repetitive and mundane, but you need to build a solid foundation before you can progress upwards.
Working as a Manager within Audit will give you a varied workload, where not only do you plan, lead, and execute audit fieldwork, but you will also manage staff, command your own clients, attend networking events, contribute to business development, and assist with internal processes (to name a few!), so overall your role will evolve into a varied and interesting position, ensuring you have job satisfaction whilst also earning a premium salary!
