    CV Writing Tips

Writing a CV can feel daunting, with many of us experiencing ‘blank page syndrome’ when confronted with a new word document and the task of writing about ourselves.

To help with this, I have included 9 tips below to help guide your Accountancy and Finance CV writing, and hopefully make this task a little bit easier!

    1. Include your contact details – this may seem silly but countless times as a recruiter I’ve seen a great CV with no way of contacting the candidate!
    2. A short introduction can be a good way to highlight your best qualities and express what you are looking for with this next role.
    3. Be specific about the dates you started/finished a role – including “2015-2016” doesn’t give enough information as to how long you have worked somewhere, include the month and year to make it clearer.
    4. Write your work experience with the most recent at the top and the oldest at the bottom (as your most recent role will be the most relevant).
    5. Include specific details about your role – it can be difficult to list precisely what you do every day, but try to list your key responsibilities, the size of the clients you work on, how you have progressed within the company etc.
    6. If you have achieved anything within your role, such as awards or recognitions within your organisation, include these!
    7. List out your education history, with grades included for key GCSE subjects such as Maths and English, your A-level grades, University degree and grade and any professional qualifications. If you have undertaken specific accountancy professional qualifications, included these at the top of the list as they will be most relevant.
    8. A short paragraph at the end of your CV to highlight your hobbies and interests can be a great way to show your personality (and that you are human!).
    9. Once you have composed your CV, spell check your work and ensure you have spaced your paragraphs clearly. No one will read an A4 block of text, so make your CV easy to follow.
